How do I apply?

Applications are available every Wednesday between 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00.  Please feel free to drop by between these hours to sign for and pick up an application.

What is the starting wage for an apprentice?

1st period apprentices start out at 65% of the journey level wage.  ($20.57 an hour) Journeyman ironworkers currently make $31.65 an hour.

What is the minimum age to apply

The minimum age for apprenticeship is 18 years old.

What is the minimum qualifications to apply?

You must be 18 years of age and be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.

Is there traveling involved?

Ironworkers local 29 jurisdiction covers the entire state of Oregon and 5 ½ counties of S.W. Washington. There are many projects outside the Portland metropolitan area.  Apprentices are expected to travel to these jobsites if so dispatched.  Out-of-town subsistence is available outside a 45-mile zone from Portland.

What are the normal hours of work?

You can expect to work from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm 5 days a week. In addition, some out of town is a 4 day week 10 hour days.

Is there an application fee?
There is no application fee.

How much are union dues?

Apprentices currently pay $34.90 a month in Dues.

Will I be drug tested?

All apprentices will be tested before they are indentured and are also subject to random testing.
